ALL ABOUT THERAPY

Learn About My Therapies

Life can feel overwhelming, and sometimes even exhausting. If you're struggling with your emotional wellbeing, I'm here to help.

I deliver a range of therapies, tailoring my approach to your unique needs and circumstances.

CBT

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

An evidence based treatment for depression, excessive worry (GAD), social anxiety, phobias, OCD, PTSD and panic attacks. CBT explores the links between thoughts, emotions and behaviours, so unhelpful cycles can change.

EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitisation & Reprocessing

EMDR can support people affected by traumatic experiences and PTSD. EMDR can also help with phobias, low self-esteem and past experiences which still affect the present.

TA

Transactional Analysis

TA is a form of psychotherapy for personal growth and understanding the dynamics in relationships. It explores early experiences and messages which may no longer be helpful in adult life.

COUPLES THERAPY

For Relationships That Feel Stuck

Relationships can all struggle from time to time, from frequent bickering, to losing the 'spark' in your relationship.

At InnerFocus Therapy, I offer specialised couples counselling services in Newcastle to help you and your partner overcome challenges and strengthen your relationship. Whether you are addressing communication issues or rebuilding trust, my therapy provides a safe space for growth and understanding.

Unfortunately, I cannot help in relationships where there is domestic violence or physical aggression within my practice.

Should we come to Couples Counselling?

When you come to couples counselling is up to you both as a couple, sometimes couples counselling is seen as the 'last resort' to save a relationship, however coming to counselling early can help before it gets that bad, as a way to keep your relationships healthy and address any issues before they become 'stuck'. So if you're in Newcastle and feel couples therapy might help you, please get in touch to arrange an assessment.

How could Couples Therapy help?

In our first session, we'll discuss your reasons for seeking therapy and set individual and couple goals. Couples Therapy focuses on understanding the root of your issues without placing blame, and may lead to individual therapy if beneficial. Together, you'll explore ways to resolve your challenges or determine if parting ways is the best option. This safe space will help you navigate your future together.

CLINICAL SUPERVISION

Support for Counsellors and Therapists

Welcome to my supervision practice. With experience in both NHS services and private practice since 2007, as well as a qualification in clinical supervision (trained to Masters level at Teesside University in 2013) I bring a supportive and collaborative approach to supervision.

My style can be didactic, as well as providing space for reflection, and focused on helping you build clarity and confidence in your client work. I also value the restorative function of supervision. I strive to create a safe and informal environment where open dialogue and curiosity are encouraged, ensuring that every aspect of your work is explored without hesitation.

In-person and online clinical supervision are available to therapists operating in the UK.

I am happy to offer a short free consultation to see if we would be a good fit to work together.

What will happen in our first meeting?

Your first supervision session focuses on getting to know you, your practice and what you need from supervision.

We will explore your professional background, current client work, preferred learning style and any areas where you would like support. We will also agree the practical framework for our work together, including frequency of sessions, confidentiality and record-keeping. There will be space to bring immediate clinical concerns if needed.

My aim is for you to leave the first session with a clear sense of how supervision will work and confidence that it will be a supportive and useful space for your ongoing development.

CLIENT FEEDBACK

What Clients Have Said

"I feel more resilient and generally better, calmer, and I can handle situations much more effectively."

"Kathryn is a very warm and genuine person and made me feel at ease at every step of the process."

"She taught me how to be me again, and for that I will forever be grateful."

"I feel like I understand myself a lot more and am much better equipped to deal with the situation should it occur again."

WHAT TO EXPECT

What will therapy be like?

Therapy Room Photo
The Therapy Environment

I aim to create a relaxed, supportive space where you feel as comfortable as possible. I know that starting therapy can feel daunting, so building a trusting, collaborative relationship is central to how I work. I welcome feedback at any stage to ensure therapy remains relevant and tailored to you.

What to Expect

I offer both short- and long-term therapy depending on your needs. Some people prefer focused, shorter-term work around a specific difficulty; others benefit from longer-term exploration of deeper patterns and experiences. Sessions are guided by your pace, with the aim of building insight, developing coping strategies, and making meaningful, lasting change.

Your First Session

In our first session, we'll explore what has brought you to therapy and what you're hoping to change — not just what feels difficult right now, but what you'd like life to look and feel like instead. You'll have the chance to ask questions and get a sense of whether working together feels right for you. There is no pressure to talk about anything before you're ready. By the end of the session, we can reflect together on whether you'd like to continue — the decision is always yours.
